COLLEGE BASEBALL: Bears win away from matching last year’s 22 victories

HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University moved within a win of matching last year’s victory total by pounding Augusta 15-4 on Tuesday at Bears Field.

Red-shirt freshman Will Jones had four hits and drove in three runs to spark the Bears (21-12), who go for win No. 22 this season on Friday when they a Lincoln Memorial at 4 p.m.

The loss left Augusta at 9-22.

Zack Shoemaker hit his second home run of the season in Tuesday’s win.

LRU was behind 2-0 before scoring 10 unanswered runs, and the Jaguars made three errors that contributed to seven unearned runs by the Bears.

Sophomore Alex Shirazi (1-1) earned a win in relief as the Bears used seven pitchers.

Augusta’s Zack Goble drove in two runs and Jordan Kelly fell to 1-1 by taking a loss.

LRU scored a run in every inning but one.
