COLLEGE BASEBALL: Bears rally to win second game of Saturday doubleheader

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lenoir-Rhyne University came from behind to win the second game of a baseball doubleheader on Saturday at Lincoln Memorial.

After the Railsplitters hit four home runs en route to a 6-4 win in the opening game, the Bears won 10-5 in seven innings to split a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) battle.

LRU (22-14, 10-8) next plays on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Lander, S.C.

Lincoln Memorial is 23-11 overall and 9-9 in the SAC.

The Railsplitters hit four home runs – led by two by Chris Salvey – and he drove in four runs.

Lincoln Memorial scored four runs in the first inning.

Down 6-1 entering the seventh inning, LRU scored three runs but got no closer.

Junior Justin Dean had three hits for the Bears – a single, double and triple – and drove in a run. He is hitting a team-best .381.

Lincoln Memorial’s Joe Bobiak improved to 6-1 after earning a victory while Marco Rios picked up his second save of the season.

Junior outfielder Aaron Stamper hit a game-tying, two-run home run and finished with three RBIs while junior first baseman Matthew Freeman hit a bases-clearing double as the Bears overcame a 4-1 run deficit in the first inning.

The Bears won despite a grand slam in the first inning from the Railsplitters’ Tyler Adams.

Sophomore John Grigg improved to 6-1 while senior Landon Whitson pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Rios (4-1) took the loss for Lincoln Memorial.
