NEW ORLEANS, La. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Haylea Salamon is on the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Southeast Region team in two events.

She led five Bears women’s athletes by being honored in the shot put and discus, LRU announced Wednesday in a press release.

SALAMON

Salamon is a senior from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and she is now a four-time All-Southeast Region selection (2015-18) after establishing a new school-record in the shot put (40 feet, 9 inches) this year in addition to the season-best discus throw (150-1) last weekend at Mount Olive Last Chance Meet.

Salamon, a 2015 NCAA Division II All-American in the discus, won the event at the 2018 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) championship for the third time in her career.  She is a two-time SAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Year (2015-16).

Salamon also holds the program record in the discus (154-11).

Sophomore Autumn Drayton, from Charlote, earned All-Southeast Region honors in the discus as well for the second straight year with a throw of 145-9, third-best in school history.

Junior Paiton Fair, from Newton, is a three-time all-region honoree (2016-18). She earned recognition this year in the 800-meter run and also established a new school record last weekend, besting her own mark with a 2:11.73.  Fair also finished third at the SAC Championships in the 800-meter run.

LRU freshman Saidah Hardwick, from Rolesville, won the 400-meter dash at the 2018 SAC Championship. She owns a school-record (56.15) and was All-Southeast Region in the event.

Junior Savannah Drummonds, from Palm Coast, Fla., earned All-Region in the pole vault for the third consecutive year. She established a new program mark in the event (11-7) this year and finished second at the league championships last month.

The top-five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions’ top-three relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the indoor track and field season.
