MEN’S COLLEGE GOLF: Lenoir-Rhyne playing host to NCAA Division II event at Rock Barn

HobbsDailyReport.com

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional in men’s golf is coming to Conover next week.

Lenoir-Rhyne University will serve as tournament host at Rock Barn Golf and Spa but the Bears’ team will not be in a three-day tournament that begins Monday.

The rounds will be played on the famed par-71, 7,021-yard Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Golf Course.

It’s the third time LRU has played host to a national level NCAA Division II event, as the Bears did that with a men’s regional in 2012 and the national championships for women (2014) and (2015) at Rock Barn.

The year’s tournament includes the top 10s West Florida, Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern, Barry, Florida Tech, Lynn, Newberry, USC Aiken, Limestone and Columbus State.

Florida Southern is the defending NCAA Division II champion.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals.

The 2018 NCAA Division II Championships are May 21-26 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals, Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year’s head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven.
