COLLEGE GOLF: Robinson leads Bears to first after round of Rendleman Invitational

Sparked by Brad Robinson’s round of 72 that has him tied for second, the Lenoir-Rhyne University men are atop the leaderboard after one day of the Richard Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury.

The Bears closed at 292, two strokes ahead of Cape Fear Community College, and the final round is on Tuesday.

LRU has two golfers tied for fifth, freshman Matthew Raybould and Carlos Lasso de la Vega Jesssen, after rounds of 73.

Luis Lopez Malo shot a 74 and is tied for 10th and Dawson Walker’s 76 had him tied for 19th.

Belmont Abbey is in third place at 303 with Catawba in fourth at 310.

LRU women tied for fifth

The Bears are tied for fifth with host Wingate (319) after one round of the Low Country Invitational.

Abbey Hartsell of LRU shot a 75 and is tied for fourth place while Ainee O’Connor shot 78 and shares 16th place.

Other Bears scores were an 80 by Chelsea Mansell, an 86 by Megan Robb and an 87 by Patricia Asensio.

West Michigan (308) is one stroke up on UNC Pembroke with Flagler College in third at 314 followed by Lander at 318.
