COLLEGE GOLF: Lenoir-Rhyne women in fifth, men in seventh at Battle of Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University women are fifth and the men are seventh after Monday’s opening round of the Battle of Hilton Head.

LRU’s women shot a 27-over par 315 while the Bears shot a 4-over 302.

The final rounds of the tournament are Tuesday starting at 9 a.m.

LRU junior Ainee O’Connor and senior Chelsea Mansel shot 77s and are tied for 17th in the individual standings, with junior Jordan Young two strokes back.

Other women’s scores for LRU were freshman Patricia Asensio (10 over) and senior Abbey Hartsell, who shot a 15-over 87.

Florida Tech leads the women’s standings at plus-9 with Anderson (S.C.) eight strokes back in second.

In the men’s tournament, the Bears’ Carlos Lasso de la Vega Jessen is tied for 12th after shooting a 74. Matthew Raybould and Luis Lopez Malo are next for LRU with 75s (tied for 17th) and Brad Robinson and Dawson Walker each shot 78.

The LRU men had 14 birdies.

Henderson State leads the men’s team standings at plus-2 with Lincoln Memorial one stroke back.
