PGA TOUR: Hickory’s Poston misses cut at Travelers Championship

CROMWELL, CT. – Hickory native J.T. Poston missed the cut after two rounds of the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship.

Poston, who played high school golf at Hickory and college golf at Western Carolina, shot a 5-over par in the opening round on Thursday and a 1-under 69 on Friday but didn’t make the cut at 144.

He has participated in 21 tournaments as a PGA Tour rookie, made 15 cuts and is approaching $600,000 in earnings.

In the opening round, he shot 75 after a day of seven bogeys (holes No. 2, 4, 9, 14,16, 17 and 18). He scored birdies at No. 6 and No. 13.

On Friday, his round included an eagle and five birdies but he also had four more bogeys.

The four round tournament concludes on Sunday with three U.S. golfers atop the leaderboard through three rounds – Jordan Spieth of Dallas, Tx., (63-69-66—198, 12-under); Boo Weekley from Florida (66-68-65-199, 11-under) and Daniel Berger, also from Florida (68-67-66—201, 9-under).
