HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: SouthLake Christian’s running game overwhelms Lake Norman Charter

HUNTERSVILLE – Cooper Wray and Bryce Duquesne each ran for two touchdowns and SouthLake Christian had seven rushing scores on Monday night, rolling to a season-opening 55-16 varsity football road win over Lake Norman Charter.

Wray, a sophomore, scored on two of his three rushes (he finished with 16 yards) and Duquense, a senior, ran 10 times for 88 yards and had 10 tackles on defense to lead SouthLake Christian.

Senior Beau Bullerdick added 10 carries for 66 yards and one TD and added 92 kickoff return yards in the victory.

Grayson Fairfax led SouthLake Christian on defense with two sacks and a fumble recovery and C.J. Simmons added two sacks.

SouthLake Christian led 21-0 after one quarter and 21-16 at the half, then added 14 points in the third quarter and 20 more in the fourth quarter.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday night but postponed by rain.

Bob McKay returned for his second tenure as head coach at Lake Norman Charter, which next play at Pine Lake Prep on Friday night.
