HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Shelby needs late score to nip Freedom

MORGANTON – Powerful Shelby got a test in its season opener – also the debut of Jim Bob Bryant as head football coach at Freedom – in the first game of the season for both teams.

The Golden Lions needed a late score to win 14-7.

Shelby opened the 2016 season in Shelby by overpowering the Patriots 49-0.

Freedom’s next game is Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Draughn.
