FOREST CITY – Patton High, sparked by quarterback Ty Causby, beat East Rutherford for the first time in varsity football on Friday night.
Causby threw a TD pass and ran for two scores as the visiting Panthers tripped the Cavs 28-21, beating them for the first time in five tries.
Patton (3-2), which had lost at East Rutherford by 22 and 38 points in its only other visits there, wiped out an early 7-0 deficit.
Causby threw 51 yards to Trent Riddle and had a 6-yard TD run to put the Panthers ahead 14-7.
It was tied at 14 at the half and Patton went up 21-14 in the third quarter when running back William Brawley broke a run 42 yards for his 12th TD of the season.
Causby’s 44-yard scoring run with just over eight minutes to go in the third quarter gave Patton a 14-point lead.
East Rutherford dropped to 3-2, losing back-to-back games after a 3-0 start. Burns beat the Cavs 31-23 last week.
The Cavs and Panthers were playing for the first time since 2012.
Patton is at home on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. for its Northwestern Foothills 2A opener against Fred T. Foard, which is on a four-game win streak.
