Unofficial game totals from Maiden High’s 52-27 varsity football victory over Bandys on Friday night at Bandys that extended the Blue Devils’ series lead to 53-14-3 in the 70th battle between the archrivals.

The summary has been revised since first published to add a missed Maiden score, correct Maiden’s field goal kicker and correct that Culliver’s return TD was on a blocked field goal.

Maiden improved to 6-1 overall and shares the Catawba Valley 2A Athletic lead (both 4-0) with Bunker Hill, which visits Maiden on Friday to break a tie for first place… Bandys (2-5, 1-3) plays at Newton-Conover on Friday night… The combined 79 points on Friday is surpassed only by the 96 scored in 2016 when Maiden won 56-40 at Maiden (also only time Blue Devils have scored more points in beating Bandys).

Series notes

Maiden has won four straight in the series, three of those at Bandys… The Blue Devils led the series 25-0-3 before Bandys’ first win, 9-6 at Bandys in 1981… Since that 1981 win by Bandys, the Blue Devils are 28-13 against the Trojans…Maiden’s longest win streak in the series is 11 straight (two games each in 1962 and 1963 through one game in the next seven years before a 14-all tie in 1972)… Bandys’ longest win streak against Maiden is three years (1997-1999)…. Biggest win margin by Maiden is by 47 (47-0) in 1956 while Bandys’ biggest win margin is 41 in 2015 (41-0)… Maiden has won 14 of its 22 visits to Butler Stadium.
