ST. LOUIS — Alec Burleson, a high school baseball star at East Lincoln High, was not on the wild-card playoff roster for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Philadelphia knocked host St. Louis out of the post season with wins of 6-3 and 3-0 over the weekend.
The Phillies begin a best-of-five series against the Braves in Atlanta on Tuesday night.
Burleson, called up from Triple A Memphis late in the season, played in 16 games and hit .188 with nine hits and one home run in 48 at bats.
He scored four runs and hit his first big league home run in the same game teammate Albert Pujols delivered the 700th of his career.
Burleson played college baseball at East Carolina, and was a second-round pick of the 2020 MLB Draft by the Cardinals. He will turn 24 on Nov. 25.
