Maiden’s defense sacked North Lincoln quarterback Reed McRorie four times and had an interception while the Blue Devils’ offense scored three times in its first four possessions.

McRorie, who came in with nearly 1,400 passing yards, went 10-for-15 but threw for 135 yards.

Maiden was up 14-0 by halftime and broke it open in the third quarter by scoring the first time it had the ball in the second half.

Quarterback Keygan Mayfield ran for two scores with running back Kentrell Williams running for 109 yards and Lee Turner adding a TD run and gaining 43 yards.

Caleb McDaniel added a 44-yard rushing TD for the Blue Devils, who improved to 9-0 all-time against the Knights (2-6, 1-3).

Maiden’s Blaine Vance sacked McRorie in the end zone for a safety during the third quarter, putting the Blue Devils up 23-0.

North Lincoln’s only score came in the fourth quarter, a pass from McRorie to Jacob Harmon.

The victory gave Maiden head coach Will Byrne, a former Blue Devils receiver, 16 wins in his first 20 games guiding his alma mater.

Maiden has a home game next Friday at 7:30 p.m., against East Lincoln, that will leave it tied for first with only Newton-Conover if the Red Devils beat North Lincoln (7:30 p.m.) in Newton.

The Maiden versus Newton-Conover game is Oct. 27 at Maiden.
