East Lincoln (5-3, 4-0) won for the fifth straight game since a 0-3 start and remains tied first place with Maiden and Newton-Conover.

The Mustangs’ next game, next Friday night at 7:30 p.m., is at Maiden.

Bandys (2-6, 0-4) hung with East Lincoln for a while before the Mustangs got hot to beat the Trojans for the seventh straight time and for the 13th time in the last 14 matchups.

Chase Jones’ 15-yard TD run opened the scoring but Bandys then scored on a 51-yard TD pass from quarterback Lake Hojnacki to Ja’Tay Culliver.

A 29-yard field goal by Ryan Shanklin, his sixth of the season, gave the Mustangs a 10-7 lead.

East Lincoln then scored on each of its four possessions in the third quarter to break it open.

Chase Jones threw scoring passes to 10 and 9 yards, respectively, to Tavin Johnson and Christian Parks. Jones also had a 3-yard scoring run, and Lucas McConnell scored on a 1-yard run as the Mustangs cruised.

East Lincoln outgained Bandys 377-259.

Bandys running back Ethan Howard ran 19 times for 78 yards — leaving him (unofficially) 45 yards shy of 1,000 for the season — and Hojnacki threw for 115 yards. Culliver had five catches for 115 yards, and the Trojans threw for 140 with three others players making passing attempts.

Jacob Ellis led Bandys defensively with 9 ½ tackles.

The East Lincoln defense kept Bandys from converting third downs 13 times in the Trojans’ 16 tries.

Bandys, now 25-23-1 against East Lincoln, will be at home on Friday night (7:30 p.m.) to battle league foe West Lincoln.
