MAIDEN — Maiden High has found a varsity football game on Friday at home.

The Blue Devils announced on Thursday morning they’ll entertain Christ School of Asheville after looking for a game following word from Monroe on Wednesday that — because of COVID — it would not be able to play Maiden on Friday in Monroe.

Shelby’s junior varsity visits Maiden on Thursday night while Friday’s varsity game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at Tom Brown Stadium.

Christ School is 0-1, falling at Corbin (Ky.) 35-21, while Maiden is 2-0 with wins of 56-0 over Fred T. Foard and 47-0 over Watauga (both games at Maiden).

Alexander Central plays at R-S Central

Alexander Central announced Thursday it has found a varsity game for Friday night. The Cougars will travel to R-S Central for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

The game replaces the Cougars’ game scheduled at Lake Norman that was cancelled by COVID.

The Lake Norman at Alexander Central junior varsity game scheduled on Thursday night has been postponed.

Bunker Hill will play North Iredell on Friday

Bunker Hill’s varsity game on Friday in Claremont against North Iredell will be played, Bears athletic director James Byrd said by e-mail at mid-day on Thursday. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.

A story in the Statesville Record & Landmark said North Iredell had suspended play by all of its athletic teams because of a COVID outbreak.

Byrd indicated he would announce any changes if the game status for Friday changes.
