Williams scored on three runs, including an 18-yarder with about four minutes to go in the third quarter that put Bessemer City up 24-13 before North Lincoln (1-3) rallied.

Short TD runs by Jake Soorus and Zach Rhodes helped the Knights get back in it. Quarterback Reed McRorie ran for two points after Rhodes’ run to give North Lincoln a 27-24 lead with about 8 ½ minutes to play.

The long game-winning drive for the Yellow Jackets was capped by a 2-run by Bruce Gunter and Jarkevious Love added a two-point conversion run.

An interception in the final three minutes by Waylon Bell protected Bessemer City’s lead, The Gazette reported.

North Lincoln, getting 181 passing yards by McRorie, had an early 13-0 lead after he threw 35 and 38 yards to Caleb Holley for TDs.

The Knights, who had their open date on Aug. 18 and face a schedule of 11 games in 11 weeks under first-year head coach Steven Pack, are ready to go into South Fork 2A play.

North Lincoln’s league opener is next Friday at 7:30 p.m. at West Lincoln.
