Lubowicz was promoted to head coach at East Lincoln after Mike Byus retired. Byus has since taken a head-coaching job at Parkersburg, W. Va. High.

The Mustangs (1-3) got their offense going for the first time on Friday night.

After Lucas McConnell scored on a 51-yard run for East Lincoln’s third touchdown of the season, the Mustangs built a 15-0 lead when Shanklin hit field goals from 35, 42 and 25 yards.

Shanklin has four field goals this season, after kicking two last season.

East Gaston (1-4) pulled within 15-6 on an 8-yard scoring run by Brodie Hilton before East Lincoln added a TD on a 36-yard pass from Chase Jones to Christian Parks.

The Mustangs’ defense limited the Warriors to 117 yards of offense, only 85 of that rushing on 32 carries, The Gaston Gazette reported.

East Lincoln had scored 16 points coming into Friday’s game at East Gaston.

The Mustangs open South Fork 2A play next Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they entertain Lake Norman Charter, which had its open date on Friday night.
