SHELBY – The high school football season gets an early start for Freedom and Shelby.
They’ll open their schedules on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Shelby – two nights early – due to the American Legion World Series, which begins on Thursday, being played at Shelby High.
Freedom is coming off a 7-5 season and will be playing its first game under head coach Luke Little, who left Whiteville after five seasons to come to Morganton. His teams at South Stanly and Whiteville went 88-55.
Shelby was 12-3 last season and reached the West 2AA final, falling to undefeated Hibriten.
