The two varsity football games scheduled Friday in the area were postponed and reset for Saturday.

McDowell will visit Hickory for a 5 p.m. game to open the season for both Northwestern 3A-4A schools. For ticketing info visit:  https://hickoryhigh.hometownticketing.com/embed/all

East Lincoln reset its non-league game with Mountain Island Charter for 6 p.m. on Saturday in Denver, N.C. The Mustangs added that game to fill an open date created by Lake Norman Charter not fielding a varsity team in the South Fork 2A.

In a game already set for Saturday, it will be West Caldwell at East Burke at 2 p.m. to start the Northwestern Foothills 2A schedule for both schools.

The games changing to Saturday means there can be more fans at the games.

A revised order by Gov. Roy Cooper went into effective at 5 p.m. on Friday, eliminating the previous restrictions of only 100 fans at outdoor events like high school football.

The new order allows entry to 30 percent of a stadium’s capacity with social distancing, masks and other COVID-19 restrictions still in place.

East Lincoln’s capacity at 30 percent will allow 486 fans, a release from the South Fork 2A said Friday. The school said it does have some tickets available for sell from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the field house.

Northwestern 3A-4A announces policy

The Northwestern 3A-4A issued a press release on Friday saying visiting teams can attend football games.

The policy is as follows:

— Online tickets will be sold to the home team’s fans on Saturday, Sunday, & Monday the week of the game. They will be available to the visiting team’s fans on Tuesday.

— Tickets will be available to the general public on Wednesday and Thursday each week.

Some schools may opt to make general public tickets available to their student body first and then to the general public.

Each school’s stadium has a different capacity, therefore the number of tickets sold for each game will vary (30 percent of capacity).
