In the previous 18 high school football seasons, only one player led Catawba County in rushing in three consecutive seasons – running back Tommy Henry of Maiden.
Maiden has had the biggest ground-gainer in eight of those 18 seasons, and former Blue Devils star Caleb Farley led the county as a sophomore (playing running back) and senior (playing quarterback) but not as a junior.
Former St. Stephens star Spencer Brown (2015, Farley’s junior year) is the only other quarterback to lead the county in rushing since 2000.
Seven of the eight schools have had a county-leading rusher since 2000 – Foard is the only one that has not – and the top yardage in a single season over that span came in 2016 when Farley, now playing at Virginia Tech, unofficially had 2,481 yards on 191 carries with 37 rushing touchdowns.
