NEWTON – Alexander Central High’s boys and Hickory’s girls won a three-team Northwestern 3A-4A cross country match on Wednesday at Southside Park in Newton.
The Cougars’ boys had 26 points to finish in front of Hickory and St. Stephens, while the Red Tornadoes’ girls had 33 points to finish ahead of Alexander Central and St. Stephens.
Cooper Castellaw of Alexander Central won the boys’ race in 17 minutes, 22.16 seconds with Ethan Deffke of Hickory in second. The Cougars’ Carter Patterson and Logan Ellis finished third and fourth, respectively.
In the girls’ race, St. Stephens has the top two finishers – Ashley Rameriz (17:22.16) and Ambria Duncan (18:07.02) – and Hickory’s victory was led by a third-place finish by Sarah Hirsch (18:21.15).
