Former Bandys High left-hander Hayden Deal is off to a good start to his seventh year in the minor leagues for the Atlanta Braves.
Through Saturday night, Deal was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA after two relief appearances for the Mississippi Braves in Double A ball.
He has pitched four innings and struck out six as the Braves headed into Sunday’s game against Chattanooga, Tenn.

Deal, signed as a free agent after a tryout at Bandys after his college career at Presbyterian (S.C. ended), is in his sixth season of actual minor league pitching (missed 2020 when COVID wiped out the minor league year).
He has been both a starter and reliever in the pros.
Last season, he went 3-2 for Mississippi with an ERA of 4.12, pitching 59 innings with 26 walks and 53 strikeouts. He had two saves.
He is 24-17 as a pro, appearing in 120 games with an ERA of 3.27 that includes 380 innings pitched with 117 walks, 339 strikeouts and five saves.
