PENSACOLA, Fla. — Hayden Deal had trouble throwing strikes on Thursday night, ending up taking a loss as Pensacola (Fla.) edged visiting Mississippi 6-3.
Deal came on as the third pitcher for the Braves (8-16) and lasted only one-third of an inning.
His log for the night: two hits, four runs (all earned) with two walks and one strikeout.
A crowd of 4,578 saw Deal leave with a blown save.
The series continues through Sunday in Pensacola.
Deal dropped to 1-1 his under-2 ERA rose to 5.23. He has 12 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings pitched this season.
He suffered his 18th loss as a pro pitcher (versus 24 wins). He has a career ERA of 3.33 with 345 strikeouts and has thrown 386 1/3 innings in 126 pro appearances, all in the Atlanta Braves organization.
Last season, he went 3-2 for Mississippi with an ERA of 4.12, pitching 59 innings with 26 walks and 53 strikeouts. He had two saves.
