Sparked by winning a boys’ tennis title and finishing second in softball and girls’ soccer, East Lincoln High has won the South Fork 2A’s Wells Fargo Cup.
The award, presented by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in each league in the state on an annual basis, measures overall athletic success in each conference.
East Lincoln gained 45 points in spring sports and finished with 119 points, two better than North Lincoln, which had a spring-best 38 points after sharing a league title in baseball, winning a softball crown and winning the title in boys’ track and field.
Lake Norman Charter, picking up 46 springs sports points after winning titles in girls’ soccer, boys’ golf and finishing second in boys’ tennis, earned 116 points to finish third.
Maiden was fourth (93), followed in order by West Lincoln (86), Bandys (80), Newton-Conover (72) and Lincolnton (57).
Bandys won a girls’ track title and was fourth in spring sports points with 36.
