OTHER AREA PLAYERS

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett — who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte — plays outfield for the Shorebirds (32-28), whose game on Monday night at Kannapolis was rained out (it will not be made up).

Delmarva has a regularly scheduled doubleheader at Kannapolis on Tuesday night with a 5:05 p.m. start, a game there on Wednesday (7:05 p.m.) and another doubleheader there on Thursday (4:35 p.m.).

On Sunday, Jarrett batted fourth and starter in centerfield, going 2-for-5 with a double – his 11th of the season — and striking out three times in a 4-3 loss in 11 innings to Hagerstown (Md.).

In 57 games this season, he is batting .292 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. He is hitting .350 with one home run and eight RBIs in his last 10 games.

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal is a left-handed relief pitcher for the Braves (38-25), who won 8-2 over Greenville (S.C.) on the road on Monday night before 3,247.

Deal did not pitch Monday night.

His most recent appearance was Sunday, when he pitched one inning and gave up one hit and struck out one in a 4-1 home loss to Kannapolis. Deal faced four hitters, throwing strikes on 10 of his 16 pitches, and had a strikeout, a line out, gave up a double and got out of the eighth inning with a groundball out.

In 13 appearances this season, Deal is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.91 with two saves. He’s thrown 28 1/3 innings, allowed seven runs (six earned), walked seven, hit two batters, issued one intentional walk, and has 39 strikeouts.

Deal is 4-0 with a 1.64 ERA in his last 10 outings with two saves, 22 innings pitched, four earned runs allowed, five walks and 32 strikeouts.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey was listed as last Friday night’s probable starter for Bowie in a game at New Hampshire but scratched from his 10th start by a non-pitching injury (see details in stories from provided links).

As of Monday night, he remained listed as “active” on the Bowie roster. He’s on the Baltimore Orioles’ 40-man roster, so if he were to go on the disabled list, he would be considered on the major league roster during that time.

Harvey’s last appearance was June 1 when he made his ninth start of the season. He went two innings, gave up five hits and six runs (all earned), walked one and struck out none with Trenton (N.J.) winning 7-2.

Harvey faced 12 batters and threw strikes on 36 of his 59 pitches but gave up a double, triple and two home runs.

He is 1-2 this season with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.
