DENVER, N.C. – Bryson Smith gave up no earned runs through five innings, and Seth Moore had three hits as visiting Hickory Post 48 won to snap a three-game losing streak on Tuesday night in American Legion baseball.

Hickory defeated Lincoln County’s Cardinals 7-5 at East Lincoln High for its second road victory of the season.

Post 48 is 5-6 overall and plays the Cardinals (0-6) again on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Legion Fairgrounds in Newton.

The victory came after Hickory had dropped below .500 with a 10-3 loss at Cherryville and a 7-2 loss to the Gaston Braves at South Point High on June 7.

After playing the Cardinals on Thursday in Newton, Post 48 has three games in three nights – a home doubleheader against Burnsville on Saturday (2 p.m.), a visit from Mocksville on Sunday (7 p.m.) and a home game on Monday at 7 p.m. against Napleon, Ohio.

Seven of Post 48’s last 12 regular-season Area IV games will be at the Fairgrounds, including games against local rivals Caldwell County (June 20), Maiden (June 22), Taylorsville (June 25), Burke County (July 1).
