ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett — who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte — plays outfield for the Shorebirds (32-28), who fell 4-3 in 11 innings on Sunday in a home game against Hagerstown (Md.) before 1,479.

Jarrett batted fourth and starter in centerfield, going 2-for-5 with a double – his 11th of the season — and striking out three times.

In 57 games this season, he is batting .292 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. He is hitting .350 with one home run and eight RBIs in his last 10 games.

Jarrett, who will play for the Northern Division in the upcoming South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star Game in Greensboro, is 15th among SAL hitters and within striking distance of giving the league a 12th hitter at .300 or above.

With 10 home runs, Jarrett is sixth in the league, and Seuly Matias of Lexington (Ky.) leads the SAL with 20 home runs.

Area fans who follow Jarrett have an opportunity this week to see him play in Kannapolis, where the Shorebirds start a five-game series on Monday night (7:05 p.m.).

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal is a left-handed relief pitcher for the Braves (37-25), who fell 4-1 at home on Sunday against Kannapolis before 1,644.

Deal pitched one inning — as the third Braves pitcher of the day — and gave up one hit and struck out one. He faced four hitters, throwing strikes on 10 of his 16 pitches, and had a strikeout, a line out, gave up a double and got out of the eighth inning with a groundball out.

In 13 appearances this season, Deal is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.91 with two saves. He’s thrown 28 1/3 innings, allowed seven runs (six earned), walked seven, hit two batters, issued one intentional walk, and has 39 strikeouts.

Deal is 4-0 with a 1.64 ERA in his last 10 outings with two saves, 22 innings pitched, four earned runs allowed, five walks and 32 strikeouts.

HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey was listed as last Friday night’s probable starter for Bowie in a game at New Hampshire but scratched from his 10th start by a non-pitching injury (see details in stories from provided links.

As of Sunday, he remained listed as “active” on the Bowie roster. He’s on the Baltimore Orioles’ 40-man roster, so if he were to go on the disabled list, he would be considered on the major league roster during that time.

Harvey’s last appearance was June 1 when he made his ninth start of the season. He went two innings, gave up five hits and six runs (all earned), walked one and struck out none with Trenton (N.J.) winning 7-2.

Harvey faced 12 batters and threw strikes on 36 of his 59 pitches but gave up a double, triple and two home runs.

He is 1-2 this season with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.
