KANNAPOLIS – Micker Adolfo’s 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the first inning, helped Kannapolis topple visiting Hickory 4-1 on Monday night in South Atlantic League (SAL) baseball.

Adolfo finished with two of the Intimidators’ 10 hits, and Mitch Roman and Daniel Gonzalez each added two hits as Kannapolis (43-30, 4-1 second half) sits tied for first place in the Northern Division with Delmarva (Md.) and Hagerstown (Md.)

Luis Martinez (2-0) threw six innings, giving up three hits, one run (earned) with two walks and five strikeouts, to gain a win for Kannapolis. Danny Dopico earned his second save via striking out three over the final two innings.

Hickory (29-46, 2-3 second half, fourth place in the Northern Division) had only four hits – one each by Leody Taveras, Carlos Garay (double), Alex Kowalczyk and Blaine Prescott. Kowalczyk drove in the Crawdads’ run.

Sal Mendez (4-4), Hickory’s starter, took the loss. He went five innings, giving up seven hits, four runs (two earned), walked two and struck out four.
