HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University wraps up the regular season in men’s soccer on Saturday with an afternoon (3:30 p.m.) conference match at Anderson, S.C.

SILENT

The Bears improved to 10-4 on Wednesday — beating Shaw University 5-3 in a non-league match in Hickory – and Lincoln Memorial’s victory over Queens assured LRU of at least sharing the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) regular season crown for the first time.

Against Shaw, senior Josh Silent netted a hat trick in his last regular season home game, scoring three times in the first 41 minutes, 52 seconds.

Seniors Emil Tansinda and Florian Simon each added a goal and an assist for the Bears. Tansinda’s goal was his first of the season.

Victor Cascon handed out two assists for LRU, his second and third of the year.

LRU held a 16-14 lead in shots, including a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.

The Bears need a win at Anderson to win an outright conference title. They have previously won two SAC tournament titles but never a regular-season crown.

LRU will be the top seed for the SAC tournament, as it owns the tie-breaker over Queens and Lincoln Memorial via wins over the pair this season.

With 10 wins, LRU has reached double figures in victories in three straight seasons.
