Bears have won 7 straight, sit atop conference standings

HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University plays its first football game ranked in the Top 25 since 2015 when it battles UNC Pembroke on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Moretz Stadium.
The Bears (7-1, 5-0 South Atlantic Conference) are ranked No 24 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) NCAA Division II poll.
LRU has won seven straight games, including beating Fort Valley State (Ga.) 30-22 last Saturday.
The Bears, in their first year under Drew Cronic as head coach, were picked to finish in sixth place in the SAC in voting by the league’s head coaches in the preseason.
LRU has scored more than 30 points in every game this season and ranks eighth nationally in scoring offense at 41.9 points per game. The Bears are seventh in NCAA Division II in rushing, averaging 283.1 yards per game.
LRU will have two remaining regular season games after battling UNC Pembroke, playing at Carson-Newman next Saturday at 1 p.m. and facing Catawba at LRU on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.
