COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: CVCC goes 1-1 on Friday, reaches 28 wins this season

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) matched its win total from last season on Friday by going 1-1 at the Parkland College Halloween Challenge.

CVCC improved to 28-9 with a victory over Sauk Valley after falling 3-1 to Indian Land to open play on Friday.

CVCC, ranked No. 14 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, plays twice on Saturday at the tournament. The Red Hawks face McHenry County College at 10 a.m. and Carl Sandburg College at noon.

Lincoln Land 3, CVCC 1

The Loggers ended the Red Hawks’ eight-match win streak with a four-set victory, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21.

Sage Harrington led the Red Hawks with 13 kills. She was one of three CVCC players with double-digit kills as Emma Clark added 11 and Rachel Delcamp had 10.

Defensively, sophomore libero Emily Williams made 23 digs and freshman setter Macy Pope added 20 digs and 22 assists. Sophomore setter Emilee Webber added 17 assists.

Clark (six assists) and Siena Naotala (one solo, six assists) paced CVCC with six blocks each.

CVCC 3, Sauk Valley 0

Behind Harrington’s 11 kills and five blocks, the Red Hawks rebounded with a straight sets victory against the Skyhawks, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-22.

Clark and Delcamp added eight and six kills each, respectively, for CVCC.

Williams paced CVCC defensively with 23 digs, and Madi Bolch added 16 digs.

At the net, Pope and Emilee Webber had 17 and 15 assists, respectively.
