RALEIGH – Shaniya Lester scored 20 points on Saturday, leading Catawba Valley Community College’s women past Wake Tech 83-66 and extending the Red Hawks’ win streak to eight games.
CVCC improved to 19-4 overall and 14-1 in Region X with three other players joining Lester in double-figure scoring – Zharia Brown with 16 points and Tory Agrusa and Tanisha Wall with 13 points each.
Wake Tech, which dropped to 10-12 overall and 6-11 in Region X play, was led by Myrayna Watkins’ 20 points.
The Red Hawks pulled ahead of the Eagles 40-29 at halftime behind seven points from Lester and six points from Brown.
Free throw shooting was critical for CVCC down the stretch, and the Red Hawks made 14 of their 18 attempts from the line.
The Red Hawks play again on Sunday, facing Lenoir Community College on the road at 2 p.m.
