WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: CVCC scores 105 points in fifth consecutive victory

HICKORY – Five players reached double figures on Saturday as Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) ran its win streak in women’s basketball to five games.

Led by sophomore Tanisha Wall’s 23 points and 10 rebounds, the 17th-ranked Red Hawks defeated Fayetteville Tech 105-39 at the Tarlton Complex. It was Wall’s sixth double-double of the season and she matched a career-high in scoring.

Freshman post player Zharia Brown of CVCC also tied her career high, recording a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Shaniya Lester nearly had a near triple-double for the Red Hawks with 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, and Nikkyanna McCaskill scored 18 points and dished out nine assists.

The Red Hawks’ scoring was balanced as they scored 26 points in each of the first three quarters before scoring 27 in the fourth quarter.

Fayetteville Tech, which drops to 6-14 overall and 4-14 in Region X, was led by Dajah Horne’s 14 points.

CVCC’s next game comes Tuesday, a 5 p.m. home conference battle with Patrick Henry Community College.
