HICKORY – Patrick Henry Community College trailed by a point at the half but then rallied on Wednesday night to beat Catawba Valley Community College 84-76 in men’s basketball at the Tarlton Complex.
Anthony Taylor led Patrick Henry (10-10, 8-6 Region X) with 17 points and Tahkey Williams added 16.
Isayah Johnson paced CVCC (9-14, 4-10), scoring 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Down 35-34 at halftime, Patrick Henry opened the second half on an 8-0 run to gain control for good.
The Patriots led by as many as 18 points in the second half before CVCC stormed back to within five points late in the game — led by Johnson’s 13 second-half points.
Tyrell Oglesby (13 points), Marcus Talley (11 points) and Caleb Bryson (11 points) also reached double figures for the Red Hawks.
CVCC’s next game is Saturday at 3 p.m. in Petersburg, Va., against Richard Bland College.
