HICKORY – Two free throws by guard Brandon Faison helped visiting Pitt Community College nip Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) 84-80 on Monday night in men’s college basketball.
Faison hit his free throws with 20 seconds left to play at the Tarlton Complex.
Myles Williams sparked the Red Hawks (8-10, 3-6 Region X) with a career-high 21 points that included hitting five 3-pointers.
Tyrell Oglesby (14 points) and Isayah Johnson (11 points) also reached double figures for CVCC.
Faison — the nation’s leading scorer at the NJCAA Division II level — scored 33 points to lead the Bulldogs (13-5, 6-4 in Region X).
Down 37-34 at halftime, Faison scored 19 second-half points to lead a comeback, and Pitt forward Antonio Freeman added 13 of his 16 points in the second half.
CVCC’s next game is Wednesday in Raleigh, a 6:30 p.m. battle with Wake Tech.
