COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Red Hawks 4-7 as they head to play next in New York tourney

Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC), fresh off having two players named all-tournament in Florida, is scheduled to resume play on Friday in New York.

The Red Hawks (4-7) will play in the Monroe College Invitational in New Rochelle, N.Y., facing Snow College at 1 p.m. and College of Southern Idaho at 5 p.m. on Friday.

On Saturday, CVCC is scheduled to face Hillsborough Community College (2:30 p.m.) and host Monroe College (6:30 p.m.).

Freshmen Emma Clark and Sage Harrington were selected all-tournament over the weekend at the Pasco-Hernando Bobcat Invitational.

Clark, a middle hitter from Boone, tallied 36 kills in four matches and added 17 blocks and 10 digs on the defensive end. She also made four aces on serve.

Harrington, a middle hitter from Taylorsville, had 28 kills also made 16 blocks.

Indian River State 3, CVCC 2

The Red Hawks fell behind two sets early against the Pioneers and despite a late rally fell in a five-set thriller during their opening match at the Bobcat Invitational.

Set scores were 15-25, 21-25, 27-25, 26-24, 12-15.

Siena Naotala paced CVCC with 12 kills while Clark added 11 kills and seven blocks (two solo, five assists).

Defensively, Rachel Delcamp tallied 14 digs and Emily Williams added 13 digs. Setters Macy Pope and Emilee Webber recorded double-digit assists with 19 and 17 each, respectively.

St. Johns River State 3, CVCC 0

Behind 12 kills from Lindsey Grossman and 11 kills from Hanna Foecker, the Vikings shut out the Red Hawks in the nightcap of the opening day of the Bobcat Invitational on Friday.

Set scores were 18-25, 18-25 and 24-26.

Naotala led the Red Hawks’ offensive attack with eight kills, and Delcamp and Harrington added six kills each.

Defensively, Williams tallied 15 digs, and Pope added 13 digs and a team-high 12 assists. Webber also made 11 assists.

No. 8 Pasco-Hernando 3, CVCC 1

The host Bobcats earned a hard-fought four-set victory on the second day of the tournament.

Set scores were 22-25, 22-25, 25-12 and 21-25.

Clark paced the Red Hawks with 13 kills and three block assists, and Harrington added eight kills and five block assists.

Defensively, Williams made a season-high 25 digs in the match, and Webber made a team-best 15 assists.

No. 17 Kansas City Kansas 3, CVCC 1

The Red Hawks dropped a tough four-set match to the Blue Devils to finish off play at the Bobcat Invitational.

Set scores were 25-19, 19-25, 21-25 and 16-25.

Delcamp made a team-high 13 kills, while Clark and Harrington added eight kills each.

Williams tied her season-best performance defensively with 25 digs, and Webber made 16 assists and 15 digs.
