WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Walters State deals CVCC third loss of season

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – Walters State defeated visiting Catawba Valley Community College 65-40 on Wednesday night in women’s basketball, handing the Red Hawks their third loss of the season.

Sherry Johnson and Zharia Brown each scored 10 points for CVCC, which dropped to 6-3.

The game was originally scheduled on Dec. 10 but postponed by bad weather.

The Senators (11-2) surged ahead 28-12 by halftime by holding CVCC to just six points in the first and second quarters. Johnson scored four of her points in the opening half.

Walters State ran its win streak to six by winning, holding the Red Hawks to 25.9 percent shooting. CVCC had 26 turnovers and the Senators had 16 steals.

Tazah Hardin had four points and nine rebounds for CVCC.

CVCC’s next game is Saturday, a 1 p.m. conference game against Cape Fear Community College in the Tarlton Complex.
