ALLENDALE, S.C. – With sophomore Sherry Johnson scoring 20 points on Wednesday night, the Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) women picked up their first Region X basketball victory of the season.
The Red Hawks prevailed 68-54 on the road against USC Salkehatchie, improving to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in Region X as Johnson — an Ashbrook High product — posted her fourth straight game with at least 20 points.
CVCC next plays on Saturday as part of a home doubleheader at CVCC’s Tarlton Complex, facing Fayetteville Tech at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
On Wednesday night, freshman Ivy Eller added 15 points for CVCC, and Aniya Taylor had a career-high 14.
The Red Hawks led wire-to-wire, taking a 16-8 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. They led 37-19 at the half.
Caliyana White scored 16 points to lead USC Salkehatchie (2-7, 2-5).
