HICKORY –In a battle of unbeatens, St. Stephens High edged visiting Newton-Conover 33-26 on Wednesday night in a non-conference wrestling match.
The Indians won seven of 13 matches – including two by pins – to improve to 15-0 and drop the Red Devils to 15-1.
St. Stephens’ Dakota Metcalf pinned Dakota Wagoner in 23 seconds at 195 pounds, and the Indians’ Blake Baker pinned Ethan Clark in 1:02 at 138 pounds to spark the victory.
Cameron Spencer had the Red Devils’ lone pin at 106 pounds, taking 4:55 to defeat Braxton Hankinson.
If weather permits, the Indians next wrestle on Friday at the R-S Central Duals while the Red Devils go Friday to the Friday Night Fights at Bunker Hill.
Newton-Conover and St. Stephens will both wrestle at the Newton-Conover Duals on Dec. 14 at Newton-Conover.
