HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) will go for its fourth straight win in men’s basketball on Saturday, facing Lenoir Community College on the road at 3 p.m.

The Red Hawks rolled past Vance Granville 97-77 at CVCC on Wednesday to reach three consecutive victories.

Sal-Bey Young (12 points, 13 rebounds), Victor Tshiona (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Isayah Johnson (10 points, 10 rebounds) sparked CVCC’s victory.

The Red Hawks had nine players score at last nine points, including a team-best 13 points from Zach De La Cruz, 12 from Malik Leach, 10 by Jordan Powell and nine each by Jahleer Black, Brandon Reeves and Byron Sanders.

Leading by as many as 14 points during the first half, the Red Hawks (13-4, 5-3 Region X) grabbed a 47-37 halftime lead as Johnson and Leach each scored eight points.

CVCC had 30 first-half rebounds and 35 in the second half, including 11 from Tshiona and eight by Yount.

The Red Hawks took 80 shots – hitting 40 – as they dropped Vanguard to 3-9 overall and 0-7 in Region X.
