MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Career-high night by Moulden leads CVCC to road victory

HENDERSON – Dezure Moulden’s career-high 21 points sparked the Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) men to a 107-80 road victory on Sunday over Vance Granville Community College.

The Red Hawks won at the Aycock Recreation Center to improve to 18-8 overall and 10-7 in Region X. They’ll next play on Saturday, the last of six straight away games, when they meet Louisburg College at 3 p.m.

Four other Red Hawks reached double figures, includig Everett Palmer with 14 points, Zach De La Cruz with 13 and Jordan Powell and Victor Tshiona with 11 each.

CVCC led 47-44 after Moulden scored 12 points in the opening half.

The Red Hawks exploded in the second half, scoring a season-high 60 points to gain their 10th conference win of the season.

Powell, a sophomore forward, scored 10 points to lead a second-half charge. CVCC had 11 players score at least two points in the second half.

Justin Baldwin paced the Vanguard with a team-high 28 points.
