COLLEGE BASEBALL: Louisburg limits CVCC to 5 hits in Sunday’s victory

NEWTON – Louisburg College checked Catawba Valley Community College’s bats on five hits on Sunday en route to an 8-3 baseball victory at the Legion Fairgrounds.

Zaccheaeus Rasberry paced Louisburg (12-4) with three hits, including a solo home run in the top of the second inning.

The Hurricanes had 13 hits, including two each from Trey Hicks, Seth Johnson and Brian Kahn.

Louisburg scored two runs in the first, third and fifth innings and one run in each in the second and ninth innings.

Kyran Russ led CVCC (11-6) with two hits, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning that also scored Garrison Burress and Jimmy Marcelli.

CVCC starter Trae Starnes allowed 10 hits, seven runs (four earned), two walks and struck out 10 in five innings.

Relief pitchers Timothy Davila, Nic Messina and Connor Hewell closed out the final four innings, allowing a combined three hits, one earned run and they struck out three.

Louisburg starting pitcher Jason Parker allowed four hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out 13.

CVCC’s next game is Wednesday on the road, a doubleheader at USC Lancaster. A game time for the opening game is to be determined.
