WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Saint Leo scores 14 straight goals, hammers Bears

HICKORY – Saint Leo’s scored 14 consecutive goals on Sunday, smacking Lenoir-Rhyne University 18-4 to remain unbeaten in women’s lacrosse.

Gabby Sousa scored four goals for LRU (1-3) in the loss at Moretz Stadium as St. Leo improved to 5-0.

Leslie Ferguson led the Lions with a match-high six goals while Kaylah Walstad scored three times as Saint Leo held a 31-15 advantage in shots taken.

LRU junior attacker Gabby Sousa scored twice as the Bears took a 3-2 lead at the 19:50 mark of the first half before the Lions began their 14-goal run.

Senior All-American Ines Flueck made six stops for the LRU while Saint Leo’s Erin Davis also registered six saves.

Sousa has 11 goals this season for Saint Leo.

The Bears end a five-match home stretch with a Thursday 7 p.m. match against 17th-ranked Mercyhurst.
