HICKORY – The induction ceremony for the Class of 2020 for the Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame has been cancelled.
The class is expected to announced early next week – as well as a Team of Distinction for 2020 – but induction will come in May of 2021, Ju Ju Phillips, chairman of the Hall of Fame committee, said.
Phillips said coronavirus requirements made having an induction ceremony in May not a good idea.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremonies are held the Highland Recreation Center in Hickory and attendance regularly approaches anywhere from 200 to 400 (an estimate).
The Hall of Fame began in 2001 and the class of 2020 will be the 19th selected.
