JUNIOR LEGION SOFTBALL: Hickory (9-0) battles Concord on Wednesday at Bandys High

CATAWBA – Hickory Post 48’s Junior American Legion softball team will try to stay undefeated on Wednesday night when it faces Concord Post 51 at Bandys High.

Hickory (9-0) picked up two wins on Monday night, defeating Shelby in a doubleheader 6-2 and 5-2.

Zoey Boston had two hits, including a two-run home runs to spark Post 48’s victory in the first game, and Annie Andrews stole two bases.

Mayson Lail and Jada Spake combined to pitch five innings for Hickory, each giving up two hits. Mayson struck out three in three innings and Spake struck out two in her two innings.

In the second game, Hickory won but had only four hits – one each by Spake, Boston, Riley Fox and Kaitlyn Leonard. Andrews walked twice and stole two bases.

Fox and Laura Drum combined to pitch five innings. Fox struck out one and pitched two innings while Drum worked three innings and struck out two.

Shelby was limited to four hits.
