MORGANTON – Ty Williams and Jarrett Isaac each drove in three runs, and Ross Fowler allowed only three hits as Maiden Post 240 toppled Burke County 10-0 in five innings in American Legion baseball on Tuesday night.

Williams (Berea College) had two hits — one a double — and Isaac (Maiden) had one hit as the Salamanders (11-3) won at Shuey Field to gain their second straight game and their sixth in the last seven.

Williams, batting leadoff for the Salamanders, is 6-for-6 in his last two games.

Maiden has two road games ahead, facing Mint Hill on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Independence High and Hickory Post 48 on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Legion Fairgrounds in Newton.

The Salamanders had 11 hits against Burke County Post 21 (3-5), led by a 3-for-4 night and an RBI by Grayeson Brown (Maiden). Jay Sipe (Maiden) had a double among his two hits and Mac Beam (Bandys) went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.

Fowler (Maiden), a right-hander checked Post 21 on three hits. He threw five innings and 69 pitches, walked three and struck out two.

Maiden scored four runs in the first inning and another four in the third inning to lead 8-0 then added two runs in the fourth inning.

Ayden Lail (East Burke) took the loss for Burke County, working 2 1/3 innings. He gave up nine hits, eight runs (six earned), walked three and did not have any strikeouts. He threw 62 pitches.

The Salamanders have scored 10 or more runs four times this season and three of those games have been in their last six played.
