Lail, Spake combine to no-hit Watauga during doubleheader sweep

Hickory Post 48’s Junior American Legion girls’ softball team has a two-game win streak heading into Wednesday night’s games in Marion.
Hickory (2-4) plays McDowell with a first-game start of 7 p.m. at The Big League Camp.
Post 48 gained its first two wins of the season, improving to 2-4, by beating Watauga County 5-0 ad 14-0 on Monday at Bandys High without making an error in either game.

Mayson Lail, Riley Bost, Laura Drum and Peyton Wesson each had two hits as Post 48 completed the sweep of a doubleheader with Lail and Bost each driving in four runs.
Drum added three RBIs, Addie Goble had two and Riley Fox provided one.
Jada Spake threw two innings, giving up one hit, and she struck out four and walked none.
Drum pitched two innings and allowed one hit. She struck out five and walked one.
Hickory 5, Watauga 0
Lail and Spake combined to no-hit Watauga in the first game.
Lail threw four innings and struck out nine and Spake had two strikeouts in her one inning.
Bost drove in three runs and Goble and Drum each drove in a run for Hickory.
