HIGH POINT – Caldwell County Post 29 and Shelby Post 82 open play on Thursday in the state championship tournament in American Legion baseball.
Shelby (Area IV champion, 28-2) will meet High Point (18-9) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Finch Field in High Point while Area IV runner-up Caldwell County (21-12) first battles Rowan County 31-10) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at High Point University’s Willard Stadium.
The eight-team tournament is using division/pool play for the first time with the winner advancing to the Southeast Regionals in Asheboro on Aug. 8-12.
The regional winners go to Shelby on Aug. 16-21 for the Legion World Series at Shelby High.
