LEGION BASEBALL: Hickory shuts out Taylorsville, plays 2 games on Sunday at home

TAYLORSVILLE – A key hit by Bradley Fleenor and solid pitching from Riley Edwards and Pierson Hanvey carried visiting Hickory Post 48 past Taylorsville 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in American Legion baseball.

Fleenor is one of eight players on the Post 48 roster who play high school baseball at Hickory.

Edwards, who plays high school baseball at St. Stephens, gained a win after throwing six innings, allowing three hits, no runs and striking out six before Hanvey, a Hickory product, closed it out for a save.

Bryce Strober and Eli Moser each had two hits for Hickory.

Post 48 is at home (Henkel-Alley Field at the Legion Fairgrounds) for a Sunday doubleheader against Henderson County that begins at 4 p.m.

Hickory plays at Cherryville on Monday at 7 p.m. and travels to South Point High in Belmont to face the Gaston Braves on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Next Monday, Post 48 plays host to a Prep Baseball Report event at 4 p.m. before facing Lincoln County in back-to-back games, June 12 at East Lincoln High (7 p.m.) and at the Fairgrounds on June 14, also at 7 p.m.

The home game against Lincoln County starts a stretch of six straight playing dates (seven games) at Henkel-Alley.
