FOREST CITY – Jace Crow pitched a complete game two-hitter and Chipper McGinnis drove in a game-winning run in the eighth inning on Thursday night, getting Rutherford County Post 423 past visiting Hickory 1-0 and 7-5 in Area IV American Legion baseball.

The results from McNair Field kept Rutherford County unbeaten and atop the East Division standings and dropped Hickory below .500 overall (10-12, 6-4 West Division).

Hickory — playing after having three straight rainouts this week – has a home doubleheader on Friday at the Legion Fairgrounds, facing Waverly, Ohio at 3 p.m. and Taylorsville in a rained out game from Monday (7 p.m. start).

Rutherford County 1, Hickory 0

Post 423 handed Hickory its second one-run loss of the season in the first game.

Crow allowed just two hits to hand Riley Edwards (St. Stephens High) of Post 48 a loss.

Josh Searcy drew a leadoff walk and score in the second inning for Rutherford County.

Post 48 got the tying run to third base in the seventh inning but fell to 3-1 this season in one-run games.

Rutherford County 7, Hickory 5, 8 inn.

McGinnis’ two-run single in the eighth inning won the second game after Hickory had scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 5-all tie.

McGinnis was the winning pitcher and Cam Snethen earned a save for Post 423.

Pierson Hanvey (Hickory) took the loss.

A walk, hit batsman and outfield error helped Rutherford County take a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Hickory was down 4-2 in the fifth inning and 5-2 after Rutherford County scored a run in the sixth inning.
